Associate Therapist | New York, New Jersey

Nahomi Farington

MHC-I

I work with English- and Spanish-speaking individuals navigating anxiety, trauma, emotional overwhelm, self-esteem concerns, and challenges related to identity and personal growth. I understand that difficult experiences can affect how you see yourself, manage emotions, cope with stress, and move through everyday life. I am fluent in both English and Spanish and provide therapy in either language.

I provide a compassionate and collaborative space where you can explore your thoughts, emotions, experiences, and goals without judgment. My goal is to help you better understand yourself, strengthen emotional regulation and coping skills, build confidence, and develop a more compassionate relationship with yourself.

Who I Support

I support:

  • English- and Spanish-speaking individuals navigating anxiety, trauma, stress, and emotional overwhelm

  • Individuals experiencing self-esteem concerns, self-criticism, shame, or difficulty with confidence

  • Those exploring identity, belonging, and a stronger sense of self

  • Individuals working to strengthen coping skills and emotional regulation

  • Those seeking to understand or change behavioral patterns that may be affecting their well-being

  • Individuals navigating relationships, boundaries, and interpersonal concerns

  • Those adjusting to significant changes, grief, or difficult life experiences

I especially enjoy supporting English- and Spanish-speaking individuals navigating anxiety, trauma, self-esteem concerns, identity, and difficult emotional experiences. I aim to help you better understand the patterns affecting different areas of your life, recognize your strengths, develop healthier ways of coping, and move toward greater self-compassion and confidence.

My Approach

My approach is compassionate, collaborative, trauma-informed, and culturally responsive. I believe therapy should honor your individual experiences, culture, strengths, and values while providing both the insight and practical tools needed to support meaningful change.

I draw from:

  • Compassion-Focused Therapy (CFT) to help reduce shame and self-criticism while strengthening self-compassion and emotional well-being.

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to explore connections between thoughts, emotions, and behaviors and identify patterns that may be contributing to distress.

  • Motivational Interviewing (MI) to explore motivation, work through uncertainty about change, and identify personally meaningful goals.

  • Person-Centered Therapy to provide a supportive, nonjudgmental environment where your experiences, needs, and goals remain central to our work.

  • Strengths-Based Therapy to recognize and build upon the resilience, abilities, values, and internal resources you already possess.

I may also incorporate psychoeducation to help you better understand emotional and behavioral experiences and develop practical strategies that can be used outside of therapy.

Education & Professional Status

I am pursuing my Master of Arts in Counseling for Mental Health & Wellness at New York University. I earned my Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts in Psychology from CUNY City College and am a Credentialed Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counselor Trainee (CASAC-T).

I practice under clinical supervision in accordance with New York State regulations. Ongoing supervision supports ethical, high-quality care and helps ensure you receive thoughtful, client-centered treatment while your privacy remains protected.

Outside the Therapy Room

Outside of sessions, I enjoy spending time in peaceful and grounding environments, including nature, plants, and creative spaces. I also enjoy hiking, walking, and listening to music, which help me stay connected to balance, reflection, and restoration in everyday life.
