Psychotherapist | New York
Michael Gardner
LMHC
I work with adolescents, adults, and families who are navigating anxiety, trauma, emotional challenges, and life transitions. As an African American psychotherapist, I understand how cultural identity, lived experience, and systemic factors can shape mental health. My goal is to create a therapeutic space where you feel seen, heard, and supported as you work toward greater self-awareness, resilience, and emotional balance.
My approach is holistic, trauma-informed, and culturally responsive. I strive to offer care that feels affirming, collaborative, and grounded in respect for your unique experiences, values, and strengths.
Who I Support
I support:
Adolescents and adults navigating anxiety, stress, and emotional overwhelm
Individuals processing trauma and difficult life experiences
Individuals experiencing depression and mood-related concerns
Adolescents and adults experiencing life transitions and seeking personal growth
Clients seeking culturally responsive and inclusive care
Families looking to strengthen connection, communication, and understanding
My Approach
My therapeutic style is humanistic and integrative, drawing from evidence-based practices tailored to your individual needs. My work may include:
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to identify and shift unhelpful thought patterns
Narrative techniques to help you reframe your story and create meaning from your experiences
Mindfulness-based strategies to support emotional balance and present-moment awareness
Trauma-informed care that prioritizes safety, connection, and resilience
I believe healing begins with connection. Through curiosity, collaboration, and insight, therapy can become a space for meaningful change, self-trust, and personal growth.
Outside the Therapy Room
Outside of sessions, I enjoy reading, focusing on personal growth, and spending time engaging in activities that help me recharge. I also enjoy interactive games like Jenga, card games, and cup pong. In my free time, I'm interested in learning to play a musical instrument and value moments that allow me to relax, reflect, and reset.
