Psychotherapist | New York

Amanda Gonzalez

MHC-LP

I work with adults navigating anxiety, perfectionism, self-esteem concerns, relationship patterns, and feeling disconnected from themselves. I especially enjoy supporting high-functioning adults who may be managing work, relationships, and everyday responsibilities well but recognize that something still feels off internally or that certain patterns continue to hold them back.

I support clients in looking beyond immediate symptoms to better understand themselves, recognize recurring emotional and relationship patterns, and explore how past experiences may be influencing their lives today. My goal is to help clients develop greater self-awareness, emotional balance, confidence, and a stronger connection with themselves.

Who I Support

I support:

  • Adults navigating anxiety, chronic stress, and emotional overwhelm

  • Individuals struggling with perfectionism, self-doubt, self-esteem, or confidence

  • High-functioning adults who feel disconnected from themselves despite appearing to have things together

  • Adults noticing recurring relationship or attachment patterns

  • Individuals exploring identity, personal growth, and a stronger sense of self

  • Adults exploring how unresolved childhood experiences may be affecting their emotions, relationships, or behaviors today

  • Individuals navigating significant changes, uncertainty, or periods of personal transition

I especially enjoy working with clients who are curious about themselves and want to understand what's happening beneath the surface. Therapy can create space to recognize patterns, understand where they may come from, and develop healthier ways of relating to yourself and others.

My Approach

My approach is integrative, holistic, and collaborative. I tailor therapy to each client's needs and goals, drawing from evidence-based and mind-body practices to address thoughts and behaviors while also making space for emotions, relationships, past experiences, and the ways stress can show up physically.

I draw from:

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to identify and shift thought and behavioral patterns that may contribute to anxiety, perfectionism, and emotional distress

  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) to clarify values, increase psychological flexibility, and support meaningful change

  • Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) to strengthen emotional regulation, mindfulness, and coping skills

  • Internal Family Systems (IFS) to explore different parts of yourself and develop greater self-awareness and compassion

  • Somatic and mind-body practices to increase awareness of how emotions and stress are experienced in the body

  • Mindfulness and grounding techniques to strengthen present-moment awareness and support emotional regulation

  • EFT tapping as a holistic practice for supporting emotional awareness and regulation

I am also open to incorporating spirituality and personal meaning into our work when it aligns with your beliefs, values, and goals.

Together, we'll work to understand the patterns beneath what you're experiencing, strengthen your ability to navigate difficult emotions and relationships, and help you feel more grounded, confident, and connected to yourself.

Education & Professional Status

I hold a Master of Science in Mental Health Counseling from Long Island University and a Master of Science in Psychology from Mercy College.

I practice under clinical supervision in accordance with New York State regulations. Ongoing supervision supports ethical, high-quality care and helps ensure you receive thoughtful, client-centered treatment while your privacy remains protected.

Outside the Therapy Room

Outside of sessions, I enjoy reflective writing, creative expression, and spending quality time with loved ones. I value balance and intentional self-reflection, which help me stay grounded and present in my work with clients.
